Teaching Poetry Through the Music of Tupac Shakur FILLING
Feedback form is now closed.
Limited Capacity filling up

In this informational presentation with discussion, participants will learn how to incorporate modern rap music into their traditional poetry lessons. Poetry is traditionally a difficult concept for Middle School/High School students, but this project will peak their interest by involving a popular music choice with a traditional literature form in poetry. Participants will take home a greater understanding of the depth of figurative language and symbolism within Tupac’s songs and be able to teach a poetry lesson entirely from his music. Participants will analyze the songs “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Do For Love” while focusing on overarching themes in Tupac’s music as well as discuss different types of figurative language present and how they affect the meaning of his music.
